Aretha Franklin’s hit song from the 60’s, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, is still played today, having stood the test of time. However, too many new home buyers are singing the song R-E-G-R-E-T. Building a new home is all about choices. Too often the person says, “I wish I would have thought about…”, or “I wish someone would have told me…” Getting caught up in the excitement of what’s new and the speed with which decisions need to be made often clouds what is important. Think five years down the road; think of your day-to-day schedule; think broad, not narrow. Instead of R-E-G-R-E-T, your tune will be R-E-L-I-E-F. You made the right choices.

I am curious…what do you think are the top areas that get most home buyers in trouble? We are thinking about building a house and really want to focus on re-sell and “5 years down the road,” as you say. What tips can you offer us and what are common mistakes we should avoid?
